Plastic injection molding and molds to your drawing

Plastic parts machined, cast or injection molded, depending on quantity. Prototypes are machined or vacuum-cast; for production the factory builds an injection mold for your part and agrees gate, ejector and parting-line positions with you before the mold is cut.

Three routes, chosen by quantity

  • Machined plastic

For prototypes and small batches, parts are CNC machined from plate or rod. It is the fastest route to a functional part and the standard way to validate a design before a mold is built.

  • Vacuum casting

For short runs, parts are cast in silicone molds made from a master. Cast parts are close to molded parts in appearance and can be painted.

  • Injection molding

For production, the factory builds an injection mold for your part. Gate, ejector-pin and parting-line positions, and the contact points on cosmetic faces, are agreed with you in writing before the steel is cut.

  • Mold approval

The first shots are measured and sent to you as first articles. Production is released only after your written approval, and the approved samples become the reference for later lots.

Tolerances and inspection

Tolerances come from your drawing and specification. Your drawings go to the production engineers of the factory selected for your part. If a tolerance or a feature cannot be held, we raise it before production, and any change to the drawing is confirmed and approved by you in writing. Production is to the drawing.

Molded parts are manufactured to your drawing. Shrinkage, draft angles, wall thickness and sink marks are reviewed with the factory before the mold is designed, so that the mold is cut for the part on your drawing.

Critical dimensions are measured on the first shots and reported to you, and series production is released only after you approve the samples.

Inspection and documents

The factory inspects each order to your drawing or QC sheet and supplies a report. Our team in China then carries out an independent quality verification at the factory, after production and before the goods are released, and the packing is photographed. Where you specify 100% inspection, every part is inspected. Where first articles are required, series production is released only after your written confirmation. Material reports or certificates are supplied where your drawing or PO requires them.

Design notes

  1. Engineering note

Give painted plastic time to cure.

Paint adhesion on cast and molded plastic depends on the primer system and the curing time. Specify the paint system and finish on the drawing; rest and curing times before packing are agreed before production.

  2. Engineering note

    Agree gate and ejector positions.

Gate and ejector marks are visible on the part. Show which faces are cosmetic, and the positions are agreed with you before the mold is cut.

  3. Engineering note

    Machine before you mold.

A machined or cast prototype costs considerably less than a mold and verifies fit before tooling is committed. The mold is built once the design is released.

  4. From a past order

    Name the glass content.

Glass-filled grades differ in stiffness and shrinkage. If a grade is not readily available, this is stated before the quotation, with an alternative for your written approval.

Questions

Who owns the mold?

The mold is built for your part and paid for in your order; ownership and where it is kept are stated in the quotation.

How long does a mold take?

The lead time depends on the part and is stated in the quotation, together with the date the order will be ready at the factory.

Can you produce plastic parts without a mold?

Yes. Prototypes and small batches are machined or vacuum-cast, which needs no injection mold.

Which plastics can be molded?

Technical plastics to the grade on your drawing, for example glass-filled PA66. The grade is not substituted without your written approval.
