Frequently asked questions
Short answers to the questions engineers and buyers ask before they send a drawing. If yours is not here, write to or@paxis-hk.com.
Ordering
Is there a minimum order?
No fixed minimum. We quote from a few prototype pieces to tens of thousands of parts in scheduled batches. Where a very small quantity is uneconomical for a process, this is stated before the quotation.
What do you need for a quote?
The drawing as PDF with tolerances and revision, a STEP file if you have one, material, finish and the quantities you want priced. Send them to or@paxis-hk.com. The RFQ checklist sets out the complete list.
How quickly do you quote?
Quotations are issued within two to three working days of receiving complete drawings and specifications; complex projects may require additional engineering review. Any drawing questions are raised before the quotation.
Do you produce single prototypes?
Yes. A project can begin with a few prototype pieces or a first-article lot, for example 10 pieces, before series production. Where a process has a practical minimum because of setup or tooling, this is stated in the quotation.
How long does production take?
The lead time depends on the part and is stated in the quotation, together with the date the order will be ready at the factory. Factories in China close for several weeks around Chinese New Year; orders are scheduled accordingly.
How do repeat orders work?
Repeat orders run with the same factory, your drawing revision and the same inspection requirements, unless you approve a change.
Is PAXIS a factory or a sourcing agent?
PAXIS is a Hong Kong company that takes your order and is responsible for the parts. The parts are manufactured in vetted partner factories in China, supervised and verified by our own team in China. You receive one quotation and pay PAXIS in US dollars.
Drawings and confidentiality
Do you sign NDAs?
Yes, on request, before you send drawings. Drawings travel by email only and go only to the factory selected for your part.
Why is there no upload portal?
Drawings stay in email, between you and us, and go only to the factory selected for your part. Password-protected files are welcome; send the password separately.
Why do you not publish customer names?
Our customers' drawings and supply chains are confidential. We describe sectors and part types, never customers.
Who is responsible for export classification?
You are responsible for the export classification of your drawings. We cannot accept drawings that may not legally be manufactured in China.
Quality
How do you check the parts?
The factory inspects to your drawing or QC sheet and supplies a report. Our team then carries out an independent quality verification at the factory, after production and before the goods are released, and the parts are photographed before and after packing. Where you specify 100% inspection, every part is inspected.
Can every part be inspected?
Yes. Where you specify 100% inspection, every part is inspected and the results are reported. Please state this requirement with the RFQ, so that it is included in the quotation and the schedule.
Which tolerances can you hold?
The tolerances on your drawing and specification. Your drawings go to the production engineers of the factory selected for your part. If a tolerance or a feature cannot be held, we raise it before production, and any change to the drawing is approved by you in writing.
Which documents are supplied?
An inspection report to your drawing or QC sheet, a first-article report when first articles are made, material reports or certificates where required, and photos before and after packing. Material compliance documents on request.
What if my drawing calls up a specific standard?
We place the order with a factory that works to it, and the parts are inspected to it. If a requirement cannot be met, this is stated before the quotation, together with a proposed alternative.
Can anything change without my approval?
No. No change to material, finish, process or drawing interpretation goes ahead without your written approval.
Do we receive photographs before packing?
Yes. Photographs before and after packing are supplied with the inspection report.
Can you supply material certificates?
Material reports or certificates are supplied where your order requires them; state the requirement in the RFQ.
Commercial
How do I pay?
You pay PAXIS in US dollars. There are no currency conversions and no payments to suppliers in China. Payment terms are stated in each quotation.
What does EXW mean for my order?
Your order is ready at the factory. Your own forwarder or courier collects it, and we assist with coordinating the collection. Transport after collection is arranged by you. See how an order runs.
How do you choose the factory?
We select the right qualified factory for your part: the process, equipment and experience it needs, with the best quality at the most competitive price. You receive one quotation from PAXIS.
Do you arrange freight?
No. Orders are sold EXW. We help your forwarder arrange collection at the factory.
Capabilities
Can you manufacture parts that need a process or material not listed?
Yes. The processes on this site are our main capabilities, not a closed list. Through our network of vetted partner factories we manufacture across the full range of technologies and materials available in Chinese industry. If it can be manufactured in China, we can manufacture it to your drawing. Send the drawing; the manufacturing route is confirmed in writing with the quotation.
Can a material grade be substituted?
Only with your written approval. If a grade is not readily available in China, this is stated before the quotation, together with a proposed alternative.
Who arranges finishing?
Finishes are applied by specialist shops that work with the factory. Coating contact points and masked areas are agreed with you before production.
How do we mark faces that must stay bare?
Show them on the drawing as masked faces. Contact faces can be re-machined after coating. This is agreed before production.
